How to Know if You Got a Good Job Offer

How to Know if You Got a Good Job Offer | Expert Staffing

Congratulations on receiving a job offer! Now you’ll have to decide whether or not it’s the right opportunity for you.

While some may say that you should accept any job opportunity and be grateful, if your financial situation can afford you otherwise, accepting the right position instead of just any position is a wise option.

6 Things to Consider When Deciding to Accept a Job Offer

It almost doesn’t matter what the job is, it’s exciting to receive an offer. But, once that excitement settles, you have to take a pause and actually consider whether it’s the right offer for you. Here are some considerations to help you make your decision.

Do a Gut Check

Before getting into details, ask yourself the basic question of whether or not this is something you want to do. After the initial excitement of receiving an offer, did you experience any other feelings like doubt or concerns? Explore those feelings.

Ask Yourself the Big Questions

After you assess your gut check, if you’re going to explore the opportunity, it’s time for the big questions:

  • Are the tasks and responsibilities things you want to do on a regular basis?
  • Are there sacrifices you will have to make to perform at this job and are those sacrifices that you are comfortable making?

If you feel good about your answers, great! If you’re unsure and want more clarification, feel free to reach out to the HR contact.

Decide if This Position will Advance Your Goals

If you didn’t already discuss this during your interview, now might be a good time to double-check growth opportunities and possibilities at the company. Does the position have a path to promotion? Does the company offer training programs or benefits for continuing education?

Carefully Evaluate Salary & Benefits Package

With your job offer will come a detailed explanation of the salary and benefits package. From pay rates and schedules to health benefits, PTO, to expenses and reimbursements, all of these should be outlined in the official offer. If you have any concerns or questions, now is the time to ask or negotiate. You shouldn’t be unreasonable or demanding. But you do need to make sure that this position can support you and your family or lifestyle.

Understand Who You’ll Be Working With on a Day-to-Day Basis

This is not an easy thing to do, but it can be possible thanks, in part, to social media. While some companies may have multiple interviews, that may include other employees, with a candidate before they make an offer, not all do this. Scope out the company on LinkedIn to see who is listed as an employee. If you feel comfortable looking at people’s profiles, that’s a good way to determine whether you would feel comfortable working with them on a daily basis. In this assessment, it is important to remember that you do not have to be best friends or agree with everyone about everything. But can you feel comfortable, collaborative, and supported with these people? If your job is one that will be team-oriented, this can be especially important.

Decide if the Company is a Place You Want to Work

Everything above is important when considering whether or not you want to accept a job offer. Finally, after looking at the company website, their online presence, and weighing your interactions during the interview process, does their culture and operations make you excited to get started?
